PLUM Crazy!

We over at Healthy Heyday are just “Plum Crazy!”  Our Santa Rosa plum tree is making us very happy!  It’s producing and giving me a challenge each day to make something out of these juicy, succulent gems (before the birds get them all)!  The next few days I will be sharing with you some of the creations I’ve concocted out of this lovely stone fruit.

For starters, since I’m on a roll … I have made plum fruit roll-ups.  What a great way to preserve the taste of summer!  Not to mention a great (and fun) snack for the kiddos!  I remember the ones my Mama would buy for us at the grocery store.  Although, these are WAY healthier for you!  All pure ingredients.  These plums were mostly sweet so I didn’t add any sweetener.  (I would add a bit of agave nectar if I wanted them sweeter).  Easy as pie I stoned the fruit, threw them in the blender, poured the mixture on the dehydrator teflex sheets and dehydrated them at 105 degrees overnight.  In the morning, I peeled them off the teflex sheets and placed them on a sheet of parchment paper and rolled them up.  I cut the roll into smaller snack size portions.  I store them in the fridge in an air tight glass container.

You might know that plums are high in fiber and vitamin A, which is beneficial for protection against gastrointestinal and respiratory tract cancers and cancers caused by chemicals.  That is why you should always choose organic fruit, plums included!  Ironically, the most common pesticide found on plums that are imported overseas is iprodione, an agent directly involved in causing cancer.  PLUM scary, wouldn’t you say?  Always strive to buy organic, locally grown produce.

That’s enough for today, I’m “plum” tired!  It’s gonna be the “pits” when they’re all gone!  (Literally!)

OMG those sound wonderful! I wonder how strawberries and other fruits would work? I think of you every morning when I’m blending my carrots, kale and fruit into a smoothie. Miss you.

  • Thanks for the memories and those roll-ups are wonderful. I can’t think of a better way to get our fiber/vitamin A and fight cancer too!
Looking forward to your next delight!
